Rotterdam has an astonishing nightlife. In the past few years there has been an explosive growth of trendy cafes, restaurants, clubs en discotheques. The 'Witte de Withstraat' is one of the most important streets for a trendy night out in the city. Here you can find the cafe 'De Witte Aap' (which was chosen as the best pub in the world by Lonely Planet), winebar 'Het Eigendom' and numerous nice restaurants.
The "Old Harbour" is the oldest harbour in Rotterdam, which goes back to the 14th century. Here, you can see a lot of historic ships while enjoying a drink at one of the numerous terraces around the water. From here, you can take the Water taxi, the fast and black-yellow colored speed boats. Within the blink of an eye, this taxi takes you to over 50 landing stages within the port of Rotterdam, for instance to the famous restaurant hotel "hotel New York" (the old departure place of the ships to America, with a newly opened cocktail bar in the basement: NY basement).
